You Can Sign Up Now for Mortal Kombat 1 Stress Test

Preparing for a September release, Mortal Kombat 1 stress test sign-ups have gone live, with invites going out at a later date. First announced during a quarterly Warner Bros. earnings call and later revealed by Ed Boon, Mortal Kombat 1 is performing stress tests to ensure a playable launch experience.

After a Mortal Kombat promo video continued to turn the clock back from 11 to 1 for a day, Ed Boon revealed Mortal Kombat 1 with a trailer highlighting popular characters like Raiden, Sub Zero, and Scorpion. With the Mortal Kombat 11 storyline potentially playing a role in the time travel element, Mortal Kombat 1 is set to reboot the franchise with new looks to the original cast. While the Mortal Kombat 11 online experience continues to perform well for its competitive and casual players alike, Warner Bros. may be trying to gauge just how much server power will be needed for the release of Mortal Kombat 1.

The Mortal Kombat Twitter account recently shared a link to the sign-up page for the Mortal Kombat 1 stress test that will come before its September launch. Though the tweet further emphasized the intent to release in September rather than being delayed like other Warner Bros. games, it failed to list any dates for the Mortal Kombat community, leaving some to speculate on when it will go live. Mortal Kombat fans that wish to sign up for the Mortal Kombat 1 stress test will need to have a Warner Bros. Games account, and the process will prompt them to enter the platform that they wish to test on, with only PS5 and Xbox Series X/S currently listed.

According to the Mortal Kombat 1 stress test tweet, the studio is looking to find any persistent issues that its quality assurance may not have seen. Because so many modern games are released without public alpha or beta phases, the Mortal Kombat 1 stress test may bode well for early adopters of the game compared to those that picked up CDPR’s Cyberpunk 2077 or Arkane Studios’ Redfall on day one. Beyond the potential connection issues that happen in many fighting games, the Mortal Kombat 1 test may also help NetherRealm catch problems with animations, bugs that can occur after unforeseen button prompts or any imbalance ahead of the September launch.

As there are clear graphical improvements from Mortal Kombat 11 with Mortal Kombat 1, let alone the original title that inspires elements of the new game, NetherRealm Studios is anticipating a busy launch day that may be improved by stress test players. While Mortal Kombat 1 is coming to more platforms than the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, this test only involves the two consoles which may suggest that a future one for PC may occur later.

Mortal Kombat 1 will release on September 19 for Nintendo Switch, PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
