Xbox Cloud Gaming and Game Pass Exist in the MCU

The latest episode of Ms. Marvel features a small reference that confirms Xbox Game Pass and Cloud Gaming’s existence in the MCU.

The MCU is nothing short of a cultural phenomenon, with which Marvel rebooted its reputation and began a long road toward theatrical dominance. Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame may have brought the Infinity Saga of the MCU to an end, but it seems the new phase isn’t just looking at the aftermath but building the Multiverse saga.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness expanded upon the latter, while Ms. Marvel is the most recent entry of the phase. Ms. Marvel introduces Kamala Khan, while reorienting her abilities to focus on creating cosmic constructs out of a magical bangle. However, Ms. Marvel has also taken a step forward by showing that, in the future, there’s still Xbox Game Pass and Cloud Gaming.

GAMERANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

One scene in the recent Ms. Marvel episode showcases someone playing a game on their phone. Specifically, viewers can see the phone attached to an Xbox Series X controller and streaming through Xbox Cloud Gaming. It would appear that they are playing New Super Lucky’s Tale through Xbox Game Pass, and so while it’s a small thing, it’s a nice touchstone for the MCU.

After all, while one could assume that many cultural touchstones like the PS5 and Xbox Series X still exist in the MCU, outright confirmation is nice. For example, it seems that PS5s are still difficult to get in the MCU because Korg is seen playing Fortnite on a PS4 in Avengers: Endgame. It obviously doesn’t actually exist, as none of the events of the MCU do, but it’s a nice thing to see these references scattered throughout the franchise.

That’s one thing the Disney Plus shows can do a little better than the movies, showing how rooted these characters are in the world. And given how popular and expansive Xbox Game Pass is and how much Xbox Cloud Gaming has grown, it would make sense to see it in Ms. Marvel. It should be noted that Ms. Marvel takes place a year or two after Endgame, meaning this is several years in the future. If the MCU is psychic, it means Xbox Cloud Gaming and Xbox Game Pass are going nowhere anytime soon.

Marvel and gaming go hand in hand. Outside the MCU, there are several Marvel games in development, including the multiplatform Marvel’s Midnight Suns and the PlayStation exclusive Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Wolverine. By the time the real world catches up to Ms. Marvel on the timeline, it’ll be interesting to see what other Marvel games are out there.
