The newest Kindle and Kindle Paperwhite are on sale for the first time

The Kindle Paperwhite is the most compelling of the two for anyone looking for solid reasons to upgrade. Compared to the previous model, Amazon stretched the E Ink’s screen size to seven inches, making it the largest Paperwhite yet. The display is also 25 percent brighter and has the highest contrast ratio in any Kindle to date.

The bigger size may have made room for a better battery, too, as Amazon advertises it lasts as long as three months per charge, which is a significant jump from the 10 weeks promised on earlier devices. The 2024 Paperwhite is even a bit faster, with Amazon suggesting a 25 percent increase, which certainly felt noticeable in our hands-on time with the device. You should notice less delay and flashing when quickly tapping through pages.

Meanwhile, the base Kindle for 2024 feels a bit more pedestrian coming from the 2022 model in terms of upgrades. Its backlight is also brighter (as bright as the Paperwhite now), it’s a little lighter in weight, and it also has a faster processor, though we found the latter’s impact a little less impressive compared to the Paperwhite. There’s a chance that could change after further updates, but for now, you shouldn’t upgrade to the newest model for that alone.

One reason you may consider upgrading, however, is that it comes in a new matcha green color, which wraps the entirety of the device and offers a bit more elegance to the aesthetic than the typical black chassis we’re accustomed to. That one is also on sale for $89.99 ($20 off) at Amazon, Best Buy, and Kohl’s.
