Pokemon Fans Want to Run Their Own Gyms After Beating the Elite 4

A Pokemon fan shares an interesting idea involving players being able to run their own Gyms after they complete a game’s main story.

The Pokemon series offers a number of challenges for players to take on, including other trainers, legendary pocket monsters, and more. Some games also provide post-game quests, such as the Battle Tower in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

One of the main challenges that Pokemon players will take on are Gyms which, along with their Gym Leaders, have served as bosses throughout the mainline series and provided gamers with a tough fight based on their theme. Players have been taking on these elite trainers for years but have never had the chance to be one. Now, one player has an idea that would allow many gamers to fulfill the dream of owning their own Gym.

A Redditor going by the name scrlt4401 presented the idea of letting players run their own Gym in a Pokemon game. The user suggested that gamers be given the opportunity to do so after defeating the Elite 4, allowing them to pick a Type, which Pokemon they will use, and more. With online play, gamers would be able to visit each other’s Gyms and even challenge one another. Though scrlt4401 is not sure whether such a feature would work in the mainline series, they feel that it could work in some of the other sideline games.

The idea that scrlt4401 came up with is similar to how Secret Bases worked in some of the Pokemon games that had them. Secret Bases were customizable and allowed players to decorate them with various items found throughout the game. Some games also let trainers challenge one another by placing NPCs with their teams in the Secret Base. Giving players the ability to own a Gym would be a great way to provide additional challenges, as well as give them another opportunity to customize their game.

Many users on Reddit like scrlt4401’s idea of owning a Gym. They state that it would be a great way to allow players to build their own post-game content and feel that such a feature would give them a lot of possibilities on how things are structured after beating a Pokemon game. One commenter mentions that it would be a great middle ground for those who do not want to head straight into online battling, as the Gym will already be set up and run by NPCs created by the owner. It is also brought up that personal Gyms would be a great addition to Pokemon Home, giving players the opportunity to customize their space through their phones. The idea for map building and applying presets to customize the Gyms was also presented, giving gamers even more power to make it their own.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will release for the Nintendo Switch on November 18.
