Pokemon Fan Gets Free Pokemon Card from Random Stranger

A Pokemon fan gets a big surprise when they spot a fellow player, say hello, and end up leaving with a free Pokemon card as a gift.

Pokemon has been a big part of many people’s lives over the years since its arrival in the 1990s, with many fans still loving it as much as they did on day one. It can serve as a good springboard for conversation, with players discussing their favorite creatures and games within the series.

When Pokemon GO was at its peak of popularity, it made it easy to spot fellow Pokemon fans out in the world. However, even outside the phenomenon of Pokemon GO, sometimes players get lucky and notice fellow Pokemon trainers in real life. Such was the case with one lucky Pokemon fan, whose friendly compliment ended up being rewarded with a special gift.

Redditor Death961 took to the platform to send a shout-out to a fellow fan that they met in real-life. According to the Redditor, they were visiting the Hollywood Bowl when they spotted another Pokemon fan wearing a Bulbasaur bag and a Pokemon T-shirt. Death961 said hello and complimented them on their Pokemon gear, when to their surprise, the stranger pulled out a deck of Pokemon cards and offered them to select one at random as a gift.

Death961 ended up drawing a holographic Lugia card from the Pokemon Celebrations 25th Anniversary TCG release. They were overjoyed at their selection and wanted to share the experience with fellow fans on the Pokemon subreddit, as well as offering a public thanks to the gifter. Other users were impressed and envious of the encounter, and some shared their fondness for the particular Pokemon.

There’s no telling why the random Pokemon fan chose to perform this act of kindness, but it’s a heartwarming moment nonetheless. Even though there’s a good chance that the cards they offered were duplicates, giving away a free card that they could have otherwise played with or sold is a nice gesture. It’s almost like a moment out of one of the games or anime, as the main character is sometimes gifted random items and Pokemon just by talking to NPCs.

Although the original Pokemon games didn’t plan to include multiplayer battles, it’s been a core aspect of the series since the original release. With fans trading and battling Pokemon together with friends and strangers, the series has a way of bringing people together who might not have much else in common. With Pokemon Scarlet and Violet including multiplayer co-op for the first time in the core series of games, players will have even more ways to play with friends or make new ones.
