Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Players Have to Grind a While to Unlock Ghost Perk

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will soon be available around the world, and gamers are just now noticing a change to the order multiplayer perks are unlocked which pushed the classic Ghost perk significantly further up the skill tree. . Ever since the original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare was released in 2007, the perk system has changed how multiplayer matches play out online. Players were able to mix and match different perks to create custom online loadouts that suit their own individual play styles. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 continues the tradition, but it will take noticeably longer for gamers to unlock the stealth-based Ghost perk than in any of the earlier titles.

The innovative perk system has allowed gamers to customize their online loadouts to be focused on different play styles, for example, straightforward assault, sniping, or a prowling stealth style. Further adding to the available customization are classic Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 killstreaks and field upgrades. The most famous of the kill streaks is attainted for achieving 25 straight kills and unlocking the tactical nuclear bomb that kills the entire opposing team. Less dramatic but still impactful are UAVs, ammo drops, and cluster bomb strikes.

Earning experience in matches for performing different tasks, from capturing objectives to killing the opposing team, lets a player increase their overall level and earn different perks, weapons, kill streaks, and field upgrades. Ghost in the previous Modern Warfare unlocked at level 24. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 players will unlock Ghost much later at level 52 according to an image shared by Reddit user NathanCollier14, where it has been upgraded to an Ultimate Perk. While the usefulness of each individual perk in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 depends on personal preference, Ghost now requires over twice as many levels to earn, which significantly increases the grind for average players.

One of the original perks from the first Modern Warfare title, Ghost allows the player to remain undetectable to enemy UAVs, portable radars, and heartbeat sensors. Normally those devices cause players to appear as red dots on the opposing team’s minimap or as a blinking green dot on the heartbeat sensor. Ghost makes stealth kills, such as with the close quarters of a gunfight match, significantly easier to achieve during chaotic online multiplayer matches of all types.

Fans of the series have responded by saying that they can use the numerous double XP promotions to reduce the grind. Players can also play in any of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 modes available at launch, which will reduce the grind through general gaming. Once Ghost is finally unlocked, players will at least never lose access to it, but until then, players will have to rely on their teammates to take down every UAV soaring overhead.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be fully released October 28 on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
