[UPDATE: An earlier version of this story erroneously said that Amouranth has late-stage ovarian cancer when it is late-stage ovarian failure. Game Rant has corrected the story and apologizes for the mistake.]
Popular Twitch streamer Kaitlyn “Amouranth” Siragusa shared some somber news on social media, as she revealed that she has late-stage ovarian failure, which will hinder her ability to fulfill prior commitments in the near future. Though she is the most popular female streamer on Twitch, Amouranth said she is not fond of sharing personal details. Given the circumstances of her diagnosis and the cancelations, she stated that an explanation was owed to her followers.
While Twitch has been one of Amouranth’s main platforms for content creation, she has remained critical of the Amazon-owned service over its sexual content policies. While Amouranth has fought some battles against Twitch’s policies, health concerns have forced her to make some tough choices and cancel some plans.
On June 26, Amouranth posted a Twitter thread about her diagnosis and some appearances she has canceled as a result of it. Amouranth stated that she was initially diagnosed in March and that her body has been in menopause for some time as a result of the disease. Per doctor’s orders, Amouranth was forced to withdraw from her upcoming boxing debut that was set to take place in Madrid, Spain on July 1. Amouranth stated that the physical intensity of a boxing match coupled with her recent treatment would result in extreme physical injuries, such as ovarian torsions and twists, or her death were she to push forward with it.
Amouranth said she hoped to delay some of the first injections as part of her treatment, but some recent medical developments forced her hand, and she had to take her first injections just days before she was set to box Mayichi, a Spanish streamer. While she lamented her withdrawal from the boxing match, Amouranth remained hopeful that her ongoing treatments will be quick and that she could make her boxing debut in 2024. On social media, the response to Amouranth’s diagnosis has been overwhelmingly supportive, with many messages wishing the Twitch streamer the best. Some of Amouranth’s fans were disappointed to learn that she would not be making the trip to Spain but appreciated the transparency and explanation behind her withdrawal.
Recently, Amouranth signed a deal with Kick, one of Twitch’s upcoming competitors, though the details on how much she would make were not disclosed. It remains to be seen what her late-stage ovarian failure diagnosis and upcoming treatments will do for content creation in the near future.
