Skyrim Video Shows Difficulties of Trying to Decorate Without Mods

A fan of The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim shares a clip on how difficult it was to decorate player homes before the arrival of game changing mods.

Many players of The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim would likely agree that one of the main reasons the title has stayed as replayable as it is, is because of the game’s community. Fans have created so much content that it is not surprising for Bethesda to continue to milk the title by releasing every other edition it can think of. This includes the Skyrim Anniversary Edition released just this year. Now, with all the modifications that players can implement into their games, one Skyrim fan shares how difficult house decorating was before the arrival of all the currently available mods.

GAMERANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

The longevity and replayability of Skyrim can somewhat be considered a gaming marvel. Despite already being 10 years old this 2021, there seems to still be a hardcore community of players that still enjoy adventuring through Tamriel. Through the years, the game has improved, whether through Bethesda’s own Skyrim DLCs, or the community’s wide range of game changing mods. With so many tweaks available, it is not surprising for fans to already forget how inconvenient some of the gameplay used to be before all improvements were implemented into their base games.

On Reddit, user littleratofhorrors shared a one-minute clip of them decorating their own home in Skyrim. The footage showed them picking up a Dibella Statue and trying to place it on a shelf. They attempted to set the statue upright on the shelf several times, but failed until the last part of the video. Without any modifications helping them with the controls, the statue kept falling over and over again. In a vanilla Skyrim game without any mods, it would likely take players hours just to completely deck out their homes with decorative items.

Inspired by littleratofhorrors’s footage, users on Reddit thread reminisced about the time they also used to decorate their own homes without the help of game mods. Some mentioned that Skyrim seemed to mock them, as they would take time to place items properly, only for said objects to fly out of their spaces once they leave and re-enter their houses. Others gave tips to fellow players, sharing that they would drop the decors from their item inventory in Skyrim, leave and re-enter their home, then go about decorating.

Now that Skyrim has a bunch of amazing mods, placing objects around player houses is not so difficult anymore. With such convenience and improvements available on such an open-world game as Skyrim, fans are likely to keep playing the game. At least, until a new Elder Scrolls title comes around.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim – Anniversary Edition is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
